Opened in January 2023, "88 Asakusa" is the second location of the Kyoto, Ukyō Ward-based Japanese tea stand "88 Ryoyasha." After training at a tea shop, the owner pursued authentic matcha, offering a variety of Japanese tea lattes and sweets. The shop is housed in a 70-year-old renovated wooden home near Sumida Park, creating a modern Japanese atmosphere. You can enjoy freshly whisked Kyoto matcha with the backdrop of the Sumida River and Tokyo Skytree(R).

At 88 Asakusa, the "Asakusa Pudding," specially developed for their Tokyo location, is available in limited quantities. The "Kyoto 88 Pudding" (750 yen / with shiratama topping +150 yen) features milk pudding topped with matcha sauce, while the "Asakusa Pudding" blends matcha into the milk pudding itself and uses an even richer matcha sauce, resulting in a deeper flavor experience.

For matcha lattes, you can choose from three types of tea leaves. The "Matcha Latte Ichi" (800 yen) blends two types of Ujitawara matcha, "Okumidori" and "Samidori," for a well-balanced flavor of umami and bitterness. The "Matcha Latte Ni" (1,300 yen) uses matcha that has been roasted more intensely than usual, offering a fragrant aroma reminiscent of roasted soybean flour (kinako). The "Matcha Latte San" (1,600 yen) is made with 100% hand-picked tea leaves, characterized by a robust umami with minimal off-notes. For any of these matcha lattes, we recommend adding the shop’s signature homemade matcha ice cream as a topping (+500 yen), as shown in the photo. There is an eat-in space inside, so you can take photos of your matcha drinks or take a break from sightseeing.
