Kakigori (shaved ice) is a Japanese summer treat that is loved by all ages.
You can often find it at summer festivals or beaches.
It is normally flavored with syrups of different flavors such as strawberry, cherry, lemon, green tea and etc.
In mid-summer, most Japanese-style cafes and coffee shops all over Japan are serving kakigori with various and unique flavors.
In fact, some of them are so popular you’d often see people queuing in front of the store.

Today, I went to Ginza Tatsutano located in Shibuya to have kakigori for the first time this summer.
Ginza Tatsutano is a Japanese authentic sweet shop established in 1895.
If you are craving for Japanese traditional sweets, it is the perfect place to go.

The reason I wanted to visit here today is this.
In their 120 years of their history, Ginza Tatsutano presented a new menu “Ao Fuji”.
“Ao” means blue in Japanese, and fuji means, well obviously Mt. Fuji.
Doesn’t it look beautiful?
Yogurt sauce to pour on top of it freshens the heat of the summer.
Loved it!

Blue Mt. Fuji looked gorgeous and tasted very delicious, but I think I can handle more.
The next is the red Mt. Fuji called “Aka Fuji.”
It reminds you of a beautiful red sunset reflection of Mt. Fuji.
Rich raspberry sauce goes great with crunchy shaved ice, and addition of yogurt sauce makes it the perfect combination.

Raspberries, blueberries and cream cheese ice cream appear when you continue to dig in and eat it.
What a nice surprise!
To mix everything brings fantastic change from shaved flavored ice to creamy kakigori that you’ve never tasted before.
I absolutely fell in love with these two desserts, and I dearly hope you have a try when you come to visit Japan!
