The northernmost prefecture of Japan’s Honshu, Aomori prefecture is one of the most unspoiled nature spots in Japan. Interestingly, there are polarized districts between south to north. Dialect, custom, food culture is fully different between the two. Visitors can enjoy both delicious seafood and foods of mountains.
Since Aomori is located extremely far from Tokyo, it’s hard to access, however I have a good solution to get experience Aomori specialty for those who are not able to visit.Let’s stop by the antenna shop ‘Aomori Hokusaikan’ where you can enjoy all about Aomori!

Aomori Antenna Shop opened in 2012. Now, there are five branches in total. I’d love to introduce one of them in Tokyo, Idabashi Station
This shop offers information of Aomori’s tourism, food, history, etc.
(Apple Juice)
‘Tsugaru Apple’ is one of the most famous types of apple in Japan. There are also many related products like Apple Juice, beer and curry. The shop has drink section of Apple Juice (100 yen) so why not enjoy a flavourful and natural tasted Tsugaru Apple juice!
Rice Cracker. A lot of unique tasted rice crackers only you can get in Aomori! (Miso, garlic, sesame, etc.)
Kokeshi (Japanese traditional wooden doll) .Kokeshi has over 400 years history. There are about ten types of Kokeshi in Japan. Why don’t you collect the all of them?
Yawatauma (Toy carved in wood). Traditional wooden toy from Aomori. It’s said they bring luck. Each surface pattern has a meaning originated from Aomori history. Which means the toy ultimately carry every bit of history of Aomori
Chopsticks lacquered in red This chopsticks is lacquered with Urushi (Japan).
Sake section. There are different types of sake, apple beer, sparkling wine all originated from Aomori. A lot of them are not available outside Aomori so do take advantage of it!
Travel Information Space. They offer Aomori culture, food, festival, transportation information. You can even talk to the Aomori local people.
NEBUTAZUKE Soy sauce tasted pickles of seafood and other produces from Aomori. The ingredients are herring roe (fish egg), dried cuttlefish, kelp, white radish, cucumber, etc.
I guarantee the taste and recommend it for gifts! As proof, NEBUTAZUKE also won the Japan Gift Award as a souvenir that represents Aomori !
NEBUTA Festival
Although you may notice the food package design drawn picture of warriors and Japanese creatures, these pictures are one scene of summer festival in Aomori ‘NEBUTA Festival’ The festival is designated as national intangible folk cultural properties!
