Something unprecedented is happening in Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple

Tsukiji Hongan-Ji Temple is a 400-year Hongan-ji Temple sect of Jodo Shinshu located in Tokyo, Chuo-ku.

Since the MBA businessman took over as the CEO, there are many unprecedented events going on here, such as a salon in Ginza, the young monk walking and listening to complaints on the streets, Buddha-de-Ogiri, etc.

All the above are called the “Project with Temple”.

A café where happiness starts from morning

First, what is exciting is the new café “Tsukiji Hongan-ji Café Tsumugi” located in the information center.

As many people visit the temple in the morning, the café also provides a wide variety of breakfast menu. The 18-items breakfast named after the Amitabha Nyorai’s Forty-Eight Primal Vow’s fundamental vow, the “Eighteenth Vow”, is the extreme of “a little receive”.

1944 yen, tax inclusive

They use abundantly the local ingredients, and the food is full of gratitude.
Don’t worry about the many small plates. The porridge is for free refills too.

Not sure what is that? Don't worry, the names of the dishes are all written beneath the small plates.

At night, it turns into a bar time for adults. You can watch the light-up main temple while enjoying your fruity monk version of cocktails.

Let’s GO to book center.

What we’ve found here for intermediate level is the illustrated book “Tobidase Byakudo! Jyasenjya.

The author is the popular manga artist, Masanori Morita, who has written “Rokudenashi Blues” and “Rookies”. It is said that he is the eldest son of a temple of Honwan-ji Temple sect of Jodo Shinshu.

Then lastly, quiet your heart and enter the main temple. The main temple of Tsukiji Hongan-ji is rebuilt in 1934, following the design of Dr. Tadashi Ito, an authority of architecture, after the temple was burnt down by a fire during the Great Kanto Earthquake. It features an appearance of India’s ancient Buddhist architecture.

A lion statue sits down on the front steps, and also the animal statues such as cows, birds and monkeys all over the main hall, which is somewhat exotic Japan.

A lion statue is situated at the front stairs. In the main hall, there are animal statues such as cow, bird, and monkey, etc., it feels very exotic Japan.

Also, as the funeral of “hide”, the guitarist of X JAPAN was held at Tsukiji Hongan-ji, even now there is a memorial booth where his fans pay visit to.

Apart from the pillars and walls with decorations, once opening the stainless glass door and…wow, a dazzling majestic main hall is in front of you!!
