Kosoan, a hidden traditional tea house in Tokyo

Kosoan is a old traditional Japanese house made by wood, with a beautiful garden.

You’ll be sitting on tatami in a big room decorated with various Japanese antiques like bowls, cups, dolls, swords and paintings.

Kosoan offers various drinks and traditional sweets.
You’ll mainly find green tea, green tea flavored milk but banana or strawberry milk made with fresh fruits, or coffee is also available.

For the sweets, there’s an arrange of classic Japanese sweets like sweet red bean soup with rice dumplings, “anmitsu” a bowl with red bean paste, fresh fruits and warabi mochi (vegetal jelly suitable for muslim) for example.

The specialty of Kosoan is “Matcha zenzai”, a bowl of hot matcha green tea with rice dumplings and red bean paste in the bottom of the bowl.

The contrast between the bitterness of the green tea and the sweetness of the red bean paste is absolutely delicious!

The menu has photos and is translated in English, so it’s easy to order even if you don’t speak Japanese.
