Today my friend and his family are coming to Japan so we are meeting in Tokyo. At first I thought of taking him to a BBQ place since it’s a little chilly outside and grilled meat would be perfect but I found out that him and his girlfriend doesn’t eat beef so the plan changed. So I took them to a traditional Japanese restaurant/bar (isakaya)
We went to a restaurant named “Mitsuhashiya”. It has been open for many generations not far from Ebisu station about 2 minutes’ walk from the west exit. I came across this restaurant about 2 years ago while looking something to eat near the station. The food tasted great, the quality is fresh and I was pleasantly surprised that the price is not overly expensive. Since then whenever I’m around Ebisu area I would go there but one minor point is that there is no English menu so if you can’t read Japanese it might be a little harder to communicate but the owner is a very delightful old man so not to worry if he sees that you are a tourist he would most likely arranged a nice set meal for you. Now let’s continue
The name Ebisu might be familiar to drinkers out there because the is a famous brewery ‘Yebisu’ and today of course without fail we will drink Yebisu beer which is my favourite among the Japanese brand. In Japan Yebisu beer is consider to be one of the best. Now let’s take a peek at the menu.
Once you exit the west exit from Ebisu station turn left and head straight. Cross the traffic light and keep going straight until you see the store front.

If there is a sign similar as shown means you can enter (in case if the store is close or is full there will be a different sign)

Both counter and tables are available the waiter will lead us to the table or counter according to the amount of people in a group

First thing first to quench our thirst we start off with a large bottle of Yebisu beer

Now let me introduce the food in order
First we have daily menu which changes every day so tell the waiter ‘Higawari menu’.
Today’s menu is fatty tuna sashimi (Naka-Ochi) which is so soft it melts inside the mouth.

Bright vibrant fresh meat

Who said you need to be dead to enter heaven. It goes along great with the Yebisu beer
Grilled salted Hoge fish. Wonderful fragranceand even better taste. (Hoge-no-shi-o-yaki)

An XL size
Fried chicken with mayonnaise (Tori-no-kara-age)

There are many choices for tempura available whether it is vegetable, meat, or prawn. I went with prawn which is also my recommendation. The contrast of outer crunch and the springiness of the prawn make it a must. (Ebi-no-tenpura)

Not going to lie I’m quite proud of these pictures.

Another finger food to go with Yebisu beer Fried octopus legs. (Geso-no-kara-age)

Now to end the meal, Tofu salad. (Too-fu-sarada) A perfect ending to a perfect meal
