Sekai Café, Your First Stop in Asakusa

Asakusa is home to one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo. This is one of the perfect spots to see the tallest building in Japan, Tokyo Sky Tree, and a place where the so-popular Kaminarimon (the thunder gate) is located. Asakusa is always full of tourists regardless of the season.

Sekai Café is one of your options to eat halal foods around Asakusa. It is located very close from the Kaminarimon (entrance of the Sensoji Temple), only about 50 meters. It can be reached from Toei Asakusa Line for about 4 minutes walk, and 2 minutes walk from Ginza Line, Asakusa Station. Sekai café does not use pork and alcohol in any of their dishes, and they use halal meats. They serve vegetarian foods as well.

The entrance to Sekai Café

As you would expect from a café, Sekai Café is a pretty cozy and stylish place. The interior is unique and give a vibrant feeling. The place itself is not so big, they only have around 20 seats.

Inside the café

We came to Sekai Café at lunch time, so there were quite many customers. The lunch sets are quite cheap, most of the meals are about 1000 yen. We ordered Lamb Steak set (1000 yen) and Curry Rice set (1000 yen). Both the menus we ordered came with drink as well, and we can choose between several options (I forgot what the options were). We chose mango juice and ice coffee. As for the lamb steak, I can choose between rice or focaccia, and I chose rice. Similar to a fast-food restaurant, we come to the cafe counter to order, and they will give us a number.
When our food is ready, we will be called.

The foods and the drinks

We were quite tired at that time after walking around Asakusa, so the drink was very refreshing. The drink came in a cute jar, and it was quite big. I liked the lamb steak I ordered, it was soft but still chewy. And since it came in several chunks of meat, it was easy to eat. The portion was not so big so I finished it well and quite filling for me. I did not try the curry rice, but my friend said it was okay, and the vegetables were quite fresh.

In Sekai Café there is a small counter for selling omiyage (food souvenirs) such as Samurai Ramen, a Japanese instant ramen which does not contain pork, alcohol, or any other animalbased ingredients. I think Samurai Ramen makes a good omiyage especially for Muslim since ramen that doesn’t contain pork/alcohol is a rare thing in Japan. I myself had ever tried it before and it was super delicious!

Souvenir counter in Sekai Café

In my opinion, Sekai Café is an especially good place for tourists who just have landed in Tokyo before starting their adventure, since all the staffs speak English and free wifi is available. They also accept several payment methods such as pasmo, suica and credit cards. And as its name, Sekai Café aims to be able to serve their meal to people from all over the world (“sekai” is a Japanese word for “world”). There are many people from all over the world who have diet limitations either because of religion or allergies, and Sekai Café is a nice, friendly place that caters their needs.
