Small and unique stores that sell stuff of cute cat character.
In the last few years, Japan was hit by cat booming. Here and there, we can see many shops selling cute cat character trinkets, such as cutlery, key holder or cat shaped pencil case and so forth.
Do you believe in coincidence? I found a small shop that sells cute cat character trinket when I visited Akagi Cafe which located in Akagi shrine’s yard. This store is located in a corner of the street and it takes only about 45 seconds walk from Akagi shrine.
I am interested in this store because I really like cats. This friendly shop's owner let me in. The shop is really small and only about 2-3 people can enter. So, if there are two people inside, other visitors had to wait outside patiently. When I arrived, there was no visitors. Maybe because it was raining.
I looked around the store. Items were displayed with a different taste. There were cat character ornaments in various sizes, handkerchiefs, spoons with cat picture on them, postcards, books and so forth.
Since it was raining, the shop owner said that all goods were discounted at 10%. In addition, when your total amount of shopping is worth 2,222 yen, the owner will give a chocolate as a gift! Chocolate gift was valid only on that day and the next day.
I immediately searched for some interesting items but I was so confused. I finally chose a few pieces of postcards, one ruler that has a unique shape, old camera, and a pink pouch. The pouch was a little bit expensive but because it was the last item, the owner gave me 50% discount onit. Lucky!
My purchase was over 2,222 yen and I got chocolate as a gift. Actually, it's just an ordinary chocolate that we can buy in some stores, but there are cat illustration in various shapes and colors on the chocolate packaging that made it a little bit different. By the way, you might be wondering why it should be 2,222 yen. In Japanese, sometime people read number “2” with "nya". And the cats’ sound in Japanese is “nya” (not meow). So the 2222 numbers can be read as ”nya nya nya nya” or “meow meow meow meow” in English.
There are several items that only for display and not for sale because there is only one item left. You must wonder why there is an old camera in this store. Actually the store’s main items are cat character trinkets. But sometimes shop owner displaying old item as an ornament in his shop. If you want to take a casual walk, I highly recommend this shop. The shop owner is very friendly, and the store is also interesting.
