Shopping Experience in a Busy Market Street, Ameyoko

Ameyoko is a busy discount market street by the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachiachi and Ueno Stations. The name “Ameyoko” is a shorter nickname of “Ameya Yokocho”, literary means candy store street as historically candies were sold there. Also there are another theory that Ame refers to America where they used to sell American army products right after WWII in a black market. Either way, Ameyoko is the home for about two hundreds shops which sell wide range of products from fresh food, spice and fish to clothing and many others. In order to get there since the street runs from Ueno to Okachimachi station, the street can be accessed from both Ueno and Okachimachi Stations.

This is the busy street with dense people all over the world, and you can literally smell Asia all in one. Chinese people are buying many products in a drag store and Iranian guys are selling kebabs, Japanese highschool girls are buying used-clothings and salaryman gets drunk from daytime. Especially the weekend, people gather there to buy cheap products literally from all over Asia.
