One of the things that is fascinating about Japan is the mixture of old and new, traditional and modern. Even though people do not walk on the streets wearing kimono that often, in the midst of skyscrapers and enormous shopping complexes, you can still find temples and shrines as well as teahouses and traditional gardens.
One of the famous places that has a lot of skyscrapers is Shiodome, but did you know that there is a Japanese garden as well? Walk just 10 minutes from the station, and you will reach Hama-rikyu garden.

The entrance fee is as cheap as 300 yen, and you get a free rental smart device that will explain about the garden’s historical sites in English. For example the first stop is this 300-year-old pine tree. Quite impressive, isn’t it?

Already at the end of February, the rape blossoms in the flower garden were in full bloom. Many people were taking photos just behind the field, from where you could get a good view of the flowers, the garden and also skyscrapers!
The garden is known as a good spot to see the cherry blossoms. At the time of the visit, the plum blossoms were starting to bloom. What a beautiful view!

Walking around the park and learning about its historical past was interesting! Another good reason to come here is that you can get a picture that combines the traditional and modern sides of Japan! There are small hills from where you can get quite good pictures, but also the waterside is a good spot. On a sunny day, you can probably get even better photos!

If you get tired of walking around, no worries! There is also a teahouse in the garden. Also, if you would like to come here from Asakusa, you can take a waterbus!
