Located about 30 minutes from Tokyo, the port city of Yokohama offers beautiful night views, sophisticated cityscapes, and delicious gourmet cuisine. Now, a new hotel has opened where you can fully experience all the charms of Yokohama.

On March 19, 2026, the large-scale new complex "BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai" opened on the former site of Yokohama City Hall, right in front of JR Kannai Station. Within this highly anticipated facility is the hotel we are introducing today: "OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts."

"OMO" by Hoshino Resorts is a hugely popular "city-center hotel" brand with 18 locations nationwide. While inheriting the legacy of a historically significant architectural masterpiece, the hotel also offers a space where modern trends are beautifully integrated.

This time, editor Okamoto, who has covered many Japanese inns, and a Hong Kong editor who loves Japan, stayed at the hotel and are here to give a detailed report on what makes it so appealing!

Step inside the hotel and you'll find yourself in the "OMO Base," which spans the entire first floor. Here, the design of the former city hall, created by renowned architect Togo Murano, a leading figure of Japan's Showa era, has been beautifully preserved.

The Iconic "Grand Staircase"

Grand Staircase at OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts

The grand staircase connecting the first and second floors is a reconstruction of the design once found in the old citizens' hall. Some of the handrails with their smooth curves, as well as the first to eighth steps, use the original stairs from that era, making it a photogenic spot perfect for commemorative photos.

The Legendary "Taizan Tile Relief"

On the wall of the "OMO Bakery" on the second floor, you’ll find the art piece "Sea, Waves, Ship" by sculptor Shindo Tsuji, preserved in its original location. Surrounded by the beautiful colors of the extremely rare "Taizan Tiles" from Kyoto, which are no longer produced, you can enjoy a special moment choosing freshly baked bread.

Sustainable New Tile Art "Kono Saki Yuku Saki"

On the wall opposite the relief, you’ll find a modern art piece newly designed using discarded tiles that were salvaged during the demolition of the former city hall.

The Inherited “Green Chairs”

The beautiful green chairs lined up in the second-floor lounge are remodeled seats that were once used by council members in the former assembly hall. Just by sitting in them, you can feel the weight of Yokohama’s history.

Here are some especially recommended unique room types.

Yagura Suite (Capacity: 6 guests / 47–49㎡)

This spacious suite features a playful two-level “yagura” bunk bed reminiscent of a Japanese “secret base.” It’s perfect for making group or family stays even more fun.

This was the room type we stayed in during our visit. The dining area in the center of the room was perfect for enjoying snacks and chatting together, while the separate sleeping spaces—the lower bed and the upper yagura bed—allowed everyone to relax and unwind at their own pace. Guests are asked to remove their shoes at the entrance, in keeping with the traditional Japanese style.

Room Facilities and Amenities (Common to All Room Types)

Bath & Toilet

All rooms have separate bathrooms and toilets, with Japanese-style baths featuring both a bathtub and a washing area. Body soap, shampoo, and conditioner are provided.

Amenities

Only the bare essentials are provided in the room, so items like hairbrushes, razors, toothbrushes, and cotton swabs can be picked up as needed from the amenity bar on the first floor. Cleansing products and lotions are not provided, so be sure to bring your own. Each room is equipped with a refrigerator and an electric kettle. There are also green tea bags available at the amenity corner, so you can enjoy complimentary green tea.

Additionally, each floor has a “Vendor Room” where you can get free drinking water, ice, and use a microwave. You can use the water bottle provided in your room to bring water or ice back. Vending machines are located on the 3rd and 8th floors.

Amenities Provided in the Room

Hand & face soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and a hair dryer

Luggage Storage

OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts Yagura Room

This room is more compact than the Yagura Suite, and its two-level layout gives it even more of a secret-base atmosphere. There is a living space with a sofa and a dining area, allowing you to relax in a spacious environment.

OMO Bakery is open not only to hotel guests but also to day visitors. What we found especially unique is the “Pan-Nomi” set, available from 5:00 p.m. It's a unique style of dining that pairs delicious bread and appetizers with alcoholic drinks.

OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts Bruschetta with Whole Strawberries and Tomatoes

Among the many menu items, our top recommendation is the “Bruschetta with Whole Strawberries and Tomatoes.” At first, you might think, "Will it be sweet because it contains fruit?" But the high-quality olive oil and perfect touch of saltiness make it surprisingly perfect with alcohol! The balance of sweetness, acidity, and saltiness is perfectly balanced, making it an outstanding match for beer or wine. It’s perfect for a drink after a day out or as a light aperitif before dinner.

[Dinner] À la Carte at "OMO Dining" or Local Gourmet in Town?

OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts Dinner
