Genjiyama Park

Genjiyama Park is a cherry blossom viewing spot where you can enjoy both hanami (flower viewing) and hiking. The symbol of the park is a statue of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura shogunate of Japan. Although it takes about 30 minutes to walk to Genjiyama Park, there are also some historic sites along the way which will make your journey enjoyable. The viewing season is from late March to mid April. With adorable wild birds and 270 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, Genjiyama Park is the hanami spot for you to enjoy spring in Japan to the fullest.

Cherry blossoms at Dankazura, the Scenic Path to the famous Tsuruoka Hachimangu in Kamakura

Dankazura is a raised footpath built on Kazurai-shi (stones lining paths) in the middle of the road to Tsuruoka Hachimangu, Wakamiya Oji. The distance between the 2nd and the 3rd Torii is about 500m with about 180 Somei-Yoshino cherry treesmaking an arch. The viewing season is from late March to early April. It is a famous place where the contrast between the pale pink cherry blossoms and the red Torii creates an unparalleled view.

2.5km Tunnel of Cherry Blossoms: Kamakurayama Avenue of Cherry Trees and Meotoike Park

The tunnel of cherry blossoms is a 2.5 km main road at Kamakurayama with cherry trees planted along the road, which looks like a tunnel made of sakura blossoms.  Kamakurayama is a place full of visitors during the cherry blossom season. After watching the rows of sakura trees, you can take a walk at Meotoike Park. The rich nature and cherry blossoms of the park are so beautiful that they will make you forget the busyness of daily life. The viewing season is from late March to early April.

Hotels for Cherry Blossom Season in Kamakura

Kamakura has plenty of hotels over a wide area. It features hotels with good access to transportation, a seaside location and a favorable location that they take advantage of. If you want to stay at a hotel during the cherry blossom season, we would recommend a hotel with an atmosphere of the season or a hotel with a view of cherry blossoms from its room window.

Access to Kamakura from Airport

Narita Airport

Narita Airport, located in Chiba Prefecture, is the airport with most international flights in Japan. Access from Narita Airport to Kamakura is convenient by using the JR Narita Express. It takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes to go to Ofuna Station from Narita Airport. Then change trains at Ofuna station and you will arrive at Kamakura in about 6~7 minutes.

Haneda Airport

Haneda Airport is the airport with most domestic flights in Japan. Use Keikyu Line Airport Express to go to Yokohama Station from Haneda Airport. Then, change to Yokosuka Line or Shonan-Shinjuku Line there and you will arrive at Kamakura in 25~27 minutes. The journey takes around an hour in total.
