I went to the Chikuzen sumiyoshi shrine in Hakata Fukuoka city this holiday.
Fukuoka is located in South part of Japan. However the weather was so cold like the winter come back again.
Sumiyoshi Shrine
It’s said that this shrine is famous of giving good luck for every misfortune.
There are about 2,000 shrines which are called “Sumiyoshi” all around Japan. This Sumiyoshi shrine is most oldest and historical spots. This shrine is very accessible. It takes around 10 min from Hakata station by foot.
My recommendation is the statue of ancient sumo wrestler in shrine as below.
I’m just surprised that it’s bigger than my imagination and a powerful muscle.
Chikara
There is popular belief that you can get the happiness when you touch his hand on which is carved “Chikara (means power)” in Kanji character.
Yes, I tried to touch his hand for my happiness!!
It looks like the children and adult due to height of the statue.
Yokozuna Hounou Dohyouiri
Chikuzen Sumiyoshi shrine is related to Sumo wrestling.
There is a specific event which is called “Yokozuna hounou dohyouiri” (The champion wrestlers held ring-entering ceremony) once a year. I want to go again for watching that event.
I recommend that you go there and touch the stern statue for your happiness!!
