A new hotel, “edit x seven Setouchi Shodoshima,” officially opened on Thursday, March 5, 2026, on Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture. The hotel offers a luxurious stay, featuring open ocean-view guest rooms overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, as well as private suites with pools for an exclusive experience. It also features Shodoshima’s first full-scale thermal spa. I had the opportunity to attend a media preview stay ahead of the opening, and in this article, I’ll be sharing a detailed report along with all the highlights of this exceptional property!

Shodoshima’s First! “edit x seven Setouchi Shodoshima,” a Hotel Featuring a Full-Scale Thermal Spa
“edit x seven Setouchi Shodoshima” is a hotel with 45 rooms in 9 different types. The spacious rooms, some over 140㎡, offer sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea, and there are also suites with private pools. The WEST and EAST buildings each have different room types, allowing guests to choose accommodations that best suit their needs and style of stay.
In addition, the hotel features Shodoshima’s first thermal spa, “SPA edén SETOUCHI,” based on the concept of “a paradise that should exist nowhere else.” Here, you can relax your mind and body while gazing out at the sea.

Recommended Rooms and Amenities (with Accommodation Report)
"edit x seven Setouchi Shodoshima" consists of two buildings: the WEST and EAST buildings. The WEST building offers five types of rooms, all with ocean views, while the EAST building features a variety of rooms, including those with private pools and rooms with traditional features like engawa (verandas) and futons, which are especially popular with international guests. Here, we introduce four of our most recommended rooms.
Bunk Ocean View (WEST Building)
This time, I stayed in the “Bunk Ocean View” room.
The spacious ocean view from the large windows offers a sense of openness, with a sweeping view of the Seto Inland Sea. Just sitting on the veranda and gazing at the sea naturally puts your mind at ease.
The room is equipped with a total of four beds: two queen-size beds and two single-size beds. The upper level of the bunk bed has plenty of space between the bed and the ceiling, so you can relax comfortably without feeling cramped.
The room can accommodate up to six people, making it perfect for group trips.
The room is fully equipped with amenities and appliances, including a washer-dryer, kitchen tools, and an induction cooktop. With a supermarket and a convenience store nearby, you can easily buy local ingredients and enjoy cooking your own meals.
The bathroom and vanity area are spacious and designed for excellent usability. The drawstring pouches containing toothbrushes and cotton swabs feature the "edit x seven" logo, showing a meticulous attention to detail.

Penthouse Ocean View (WEST Building)
Next is the "Penthouse Ocean View," found on the top floor of the WEST building.
The room is incredibly spacious, and the expansive balcony features a sofa and jacuzzi where you can relax while taking in the stunning ocean views of Shodoshima.
One of the highlights of this room is the private sauna. You can freely adjust the temperature, and even customize the lighting color and music to your liking, allowing you to enjoy a completely personalized sauna experience. This room is especially recommended for sauna enthusiasts.
Gazing at the ocean view from the comfort of your bed is a special treat available only in this room. The transition of the sky and sea from orange to deep indigo at dusk is breathtakingly beautiful. During the summer months, guests can also watch fireworks displays without even having to leave their room.
Japanese Modern (EAST Building)
The “Japanese Modern” room in the EAST building is especially recommended for international guests who want to experience Japanese culture.
The floor is covered with tatami mats, and futons are stored under the beds, so you can enjoy an authentic Japanese-style sleeping experience by laying out the futon on the tatami.
The terrace features a design reminiscent of a traditional Japanese veranda, where you can sit and enjoy a special moment looking out over the calm Seto Inland Sea.
Garden Suite with Plunge Pool (EAST Building)
The "Garden Suite with Plunge Pool" offers a luxurious and exclusive space.
The terrace is equipped with a private pool, as well as sofas and tables, allowing you to fully enjoy a resort atmosphere outdoors.
A private sauna is also available, so you can indulge in the luxury of alternating between the pool and sauna.
The First on Shodoshima! Thermal Spa "SPA edén SETOUCHI"
"edit x seven Setouchi Shodoshima" features the island's first authentic thermal spa, "SPA edén SETOUCHI."
A thermal spa is not simply a bathing facility for warming the body. It is a comprehensive bathing experience designed to make use of various temperature environments, the order in which you warm up, the timing of exposure to fresh air, and even the surrounding scenery.
Since swimsuits are required, both men and women can enjoy the spa together, making it ideal for couples and families. The interior features a chic and modern design, with large windows offering panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea.
The large Finnish sauna accommodates up to 20 people and is equipped with an auto-loyly system, which automatically pours water onto hot stones to create steam. The experience of enjoying a sauna while gazing at the ocean is truly rare.
Detox water is also available inside the spa.
Other facilities include a cold bath with a water temperature of 15°C and a depth of 1.2 meters, an outdoor relaxation area, an infinity pool, and indoor baths and jacuzzis, all with ocean views, and available year-round.
Another highlight is that, even in the same location, the atmosphere changes dramatically depending on the season and time of day, allowing you to enjoy a variety of different moods.
You can wake up in the morning bathed in gentle light and spend a relaxing day gazing at the island’s greenery and the blue sea.
At sunset, the sea turns a beautiful shade of orange and at night you can relax while listening to the sound of gentle waves.
The changing rooms are separated by gender and each is equipped with 16 lockers. Panasonic’s high-performance “Nanocare” hair dryers are also provided so you can take care of your hair after the sauna with peace of mind.
