Hakone is one of the very popular onsen in Japan. It is less than 100 km from Tokyo. If you take shinkansen bullet train, it is less than an hour ride. So you can take one day trip from Tokyo to Hakone Onsen area. There are 20 kinds of onsen in Hakone and there are many facilities. Some facilities are only for people who stay overnight at the hotel and there are also some onsen allows visitors. I would like to introduce 5 best onsen which allow visitors.



Hotel Green Plaza Hakone

You can see Mt. Fuji from onsen and the view of open-air onsen is very nice. The view is especially nice from bath for women and at sunset. Free sake will be searved at women’s open-air bath everyday from 3 pm to 7 pm. You can enjoy sake and nice view in Onsen.

Hakone-Yuryo

Hakone- Yuryo is opened in 2013. It is a onsen facility without accommodation. There are 19 private rooms with open-air bath. If you don’t like the public onsen, I recommend you this onsen. Of course there is public onsen bathes, too. It takes only 3 minutes from the Hakodate Station by free shuttle bus.



Hiraga Kei Art Museum

If you like art, Hiraga Kei Art Museum has also onsen facility. Hiraga Kei was a painter and his house is now used as a museum. You can enjoy old Japanese house and his hart. at this museum. The onsen is at a private room and only a group can use at once. So you need to make a reservation by phone. The bathtub is small if you compare to other onsen. But the water of this onsen gushes out naturally and it is different from many other onsen. It is worth to go and take the small onsen.

The Prince Hakone

The building is like imperial pales. It is located by Lake Ashinoko and the view from the onsen is very nice. Especially in autumn season, leaves turns to read and the view is so beautiful. The fee for onsen is relatively high in Hakone. But I think it worth to pay because the facility is very clean and new.

Hakone-Kowakien Yunessan

It is leisure facility of Onsen. There are pools of onsen and water slide. I recommend this onsen is good for families and couples. It is also good if you don’t want to be naked at public onsen because you are allowed to wear swimsuit at pools here. There are some unique baths like bath of coffee flavored water, green tea flavored water, and wine flavored water. Of course, you can also enjoy normal onsen, too.
