Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art ( MIMOCA) in Marugame City is an art gallery where around 20,000 pieces of artwork by artist Ichiro Inokuma are displayed. It is closed until the end of March 2020, but workshops are being held in a temporary hall.

Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art is called by its nickname MIMOCA and was opened in Marugame city in the Kagawa prefecture in 1991. Around 2000 pieces of artwork by the artist who is affiliated with Marugame city, Ichiro Inokuma, are stored and displayed. The gallery also holds several special exhibitions a year focusing on modern art. MIMOCA is currently under construction from 25th December 2018 until 31st March 2020 (tentative schedule).

Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art ( MIMOCA) can be accessed easily on foot as it is right by Marugame station. On the exterior of the building there is a large Ichiro Inokuma mural and objet d’art. The building design was created by architect Yoshio Taniguchi who has had experience with building many other art galleries. It was built with Mr Inokuma and the architect’s concepts right up to the finest details. The interior of the building is a wide, light, open space that is lavishly lit with natural light.

Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art ( MIMOCA) is an art gallery which actively encourages education activities such as workshops, which aim to foster the creativity and rich emotions of children with various programs such as lectures and concerts. Although they are closed until the end of March 2020, programs that both adults and children can enjoy are being held in a temporary hall.

To access Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art from Tokyo, take the bullet train from Tokyo station to Okayama station (it takes about 3 hours 20 minutes). From Okayama station take the JR Matsuyama or the special express bound for Kochi (it takes about 40 minutes), get off at Marugame station, and it is right by the station. Another option is to take the plane from Haneda airport to Takamatsu Airport and then take a taxi for 40 minutes, or a shared taxi for 50 minutes, or the limousine bus for 75 minutes, get off at Marugame station, and it is right by the station.
