To experience the city, you’ll need to know about Umeda Osaka. Umeda is a small area surrounding both Umeda Stations and Osaka Station. Osaka Station is the main train terminal in Osaka and a major hub for the Osaka-Kyoto-Kobe metropolitan area. As the final stop on the Tokaido Main Line, it serves lines coming from Kyoto, Kobe and Hyogo, though not the Tokaido Shinkansen, which stops at Shin-Osaka Station. The Osaka Loop Line also goes through Osaka Station, giving riders easy access to most of Osaka.

Transferring to one of the two Umeda Stations gives you access to the rest of the city and beyond. Served by the stations are the private railway companies, Hanshin Electric Railway, Hankyu Corporation and the Osaka Metro Subway. With lines to Kobe, Hyogo and Kyoto on the Hankyu Railway, it’s a good alternative to JR’s offerings.
