Osaka Aquarium holds 30,000 animals and showcases them in its 27 tanks within the facility. A majority of the species comes from the Ring of Fire, an area of the Pacific Ocean which encompasses everywhere from New Zealand, all the way around to South America, with countries such as Australia, the United States and Indonesia also on the ring.

With 620 species of animal and fish in Osaka Aquarium, you’ll be able to experience creatures you’ve only seen in books and in movies. Penguins, jellyfish, otters and Tufted Puffin are only a small sample of the 620 species on permanent display at the aquarium.

The level of detail of the exhibits at Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan are truly breathtaking. Each exhibit is painstakingly handcrafted to transport the animals to their native lands to make sure they develop in the most nature way possible.

The Great Barrier Reef exhibit carefully reproduces the coral reefs found in North-East Australia to give the fish living in the aquarium a natural habitat to live in.

The biggest exhibit on show at the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is the Pacific Ocean. With 5,400 tons of water, the aquarium is 9 meters deep and 34 meters long and houses Whale Sharks, Spotted Eagle Rays and Hammerhead Sharks, some of the deadliest creatures in our oceans.

How Much Does the Osaka Aquarium Cost?

The Osaka Aquarium cost wholly depends on what type of ticket you’re buying to get into the aquarium. For people over the age of 16, the cost to get in is 2,300 yen. For children with ages between 7 and 15, the ticket price is 1,200 yen, and for 4 to 6-year old children, the cost is 600 yen. Any younger and the cost for entry is free. Senior citizens over the age of 60 can enjoy the wonders of the aquarium for a discounted 2,000 yen.

Do be aware that Osaka Aquarium do check legal identification cards at the door and that while you can use any of the major credit cards or cash to pay for your entry, they do not have an ATM on site.

What are the Osaka Aquarium Hours?

The Osaka Aquarium hours vary by the season and peak times, so be sure to check the official website for the times on the day you want to visit. For a majority of the year, the aquarium opens at 10:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM, but from the end of April to the end of October, excluding 6 weeks in June and July and all of September, the aquarium opens at 9:30 AM and closes at 8:00 PM.

During the peak times of Japanese holidays, Golden Week in May and the Obon Summer Holidays in August, the Osaka Aquarium opens at 8:30 AM and closes up at 8:30 PM, giving more time to enjoy the many exhibits during the summertime hours.

How do you Buy an Osaka Aquarium Ticket?

There is a myriad of ways to purchase an Osaka Aquarium ticket, making it easy to book your spot for whenever you want to visit. The easiest way is to book your tickets is with an authorized online retailer which gives you a QR code to scan when you go through the gates to get in, skipping the line entirely. These codes are valid for 180 days from purchase for a one day only ticket.

Alternatively, if you’re in Osaka without a pre-purchased ticket, you can grab the special Osaka Kaiyu Ticket. You can buy these tickets from any of the Osaka Metro stations and it gives you a full day of travel on any of the Metro lines in the Osaka area, free entry to the Osaka Aquarium and discounts on various other attractions in Osaka. These tickets are available for 2,550 yen for adults and 1,300 yen for children between the ages of 7 and 11.

Otherwise, you can buy an Osaka Aquarium ticket on the day at the entrance to the aquarium for the same prices as discussed above.
