Lee’s Photography Tips: Where to take night pictures in Osaka

Hello, everyone!
Today, let me take you on a trip to two places where you can take stunning pictures of the Osaka skyline for free.

Higashi-Osaka City Office (東大阪市役所)

Located in a more suburban setting is the observatory tower of the Higashi-Osaka City Office.
From the observatory located on the 22nd floor, you can see magnificent views of Osaka.
The highlight is the view of the Higashi-Osaka Highway Junction – a massive, complex construction of roads on top of roads.
This view is particularly stunning at night. Also, if you’re lucky enough to meet the same security guard as me, he might give you a candy!

Honmachi Orix Building (オリックス本町ビル)

This spot is located smack in the city centre, with great views of highways and sky-scraping office buildings.
You can walk in a full circle around the building – which means you have a 360 degree view of the city.
Each side has its own character.
There is also a café and restaurant located on the 28th floor.
While I didn’t try the food, it could be a good place to relax after your photography session!

To take good pictures of these places, do not forget to bring a tripod.
Both locations are indoors but a little help from our trusted tripod will make your pictures look more stunning!
Also, I would suggest experimenting with the “manual” mode of your camera, and setting your shutter speed to longer time frames so you can catch the trail lights of the cars passing by.
Night photography is not an easy genre, but a highly satisfying one.
Good luck!
