Cherry Blossoms Forecast in Takayama

If you want to see the cherry blossoms in Takayama, going mid-April is recommended. Blooming starts on April 2nd in 2018, April 18th in 2017, and April 6th in 2016. Although there is a bit gap, but they usually bloom around the first or second week of April. Fully bloomed from middle to late April, and that’s when it’s really a highlight.

It is also important to check the weather, as depending on the season, when blooming happens can change, and if rain falls or strong winds occur, the cherry blossoms may scatter.

Details of the Shinshu Takayama Cherry Blossom Festival 

"Shinshu Takayama Cherry Blossom Festival", is held during the cherry blossom period of Takayama. If you want to fully enjoy the cherry blossoms, it is recommended that you participate.

The festival is held from April 13th to May 6th in 2019. A trekking tour is held at the Cherry Blossom Festival. Even if you don't know the area and where the cherry blossoms are, you can join the tour and see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. 

The Weeping Cherry Tree of over 200 years is the Main Attraction 

The weeping cherry tree of over 200 years is famous in Takayama. The five weeping cherry trees are called "Godai Sakura". The trees that are called Godai Sakura are as follows: weeping cherry tree of Mizunaka, weeping cherry tree of Akawa Kannon, Edohigan cherry tree of Kurobe, weeping cherry tree of Nakashio, and the weeping cherry tree of Tsuboi.

Each one has its own unique charm, so you definitely want to see them all. 

Opening of the Trekking Tour 

At the Shinshu Takayama Cherry Blossom Festival, trekking tours are held to see the cherry blossoms.

There are three types of courses: a course to visit the Godai Sakura, a course to visit the cherry blossoms in full bloom, and a course to visit the mountain cherry blossoms along the valley. Participation fee is from 2,000 yen to 2,500 yen. There are courses that require reservations in advanced, so be sure to check if you are interested. 

Opening of the Guided Sakura Night Tour 

The "Sakura Night Tour"is held on April 20th in 2019. It is a tour that goes around by bus while you listen to commentary about the lit-up cherry blossoms in Takayama. It is a one-hour tour, and the participation fee is 500 yen.
