In Moerenuma Park which is only half an hour away from downtown Sapporo, you can climb over large pieces designed by a sculptor. Moerenuma Park was built after there plans were made in 1977 to turn a waste disposal site into a park. The park designs were entrusted to Isamu Noguchi, a Japanese-American sculptor and the park was finally completed in 2005.
Places of interest at the park includes a large fountain show called ocean fountain, glass pyramid, Moere Beach, Mount Moere, Music Shell, Aqua Plaza and Tetra Mound.
About Moerenuma Park Spring
In Spring, the green environment of Moerenuma Park is really soothing to the eyes. As it is a public park in Hokkaido, it is free to enter. There are so many interesting architecture and sculpture pieces at the park, you can spend a whole day having fun taking photos, and also rent a bicycle to ride and explore the 1.88km2 park.
The glass pyramid called Hidamari which you will see first will bring to mind the Louvre Art Gallery in Paris. It looks resplendent in the sun!
At the fountain show, you can see water spouts up to 25 m high into the sky. There are two shows, one long fountain show which is 40 minutes, and a short program 15 minutes long.
If you have kids, you definitely want to visit this place as you can put up tents next to Moere Beach which is usually open from June to September, from 10.00 to 4.00pm. Plus, there are many geometrical playground facilities by the sea of sakura section. These unique designs will be inspirational and fun for your kids to explore.

In Winter, you can either bring rubber boots of rent them to play in the snow. You can even enjoy cross-country skiing.
Moerenuma Park To Susukino Sapporo
It takes around 45 minutes to reach Susukino Sapporo from Moerenuma Park if you drive. Besides that, you can also visit the Sapporo Facility of Agricultural Experience and Interchange which is only a short walk away from the Moerenuma Park.
How To Go To Moerenuma Park From Sapporo Station
Travel to the Kanjō Dōri Higashi Station (環状通東駅) of the Sapporo City Subway Tōho Line. From there, take the Higashi 69 or Higashi 79 bus (Chuo bus) till you reach Moerenuma Koen East Gate stop (モエレ沼公園東口).
