"Kappa Ebisen", launched in 1964, is a product that was born from the inspiration of the founder of Calbee (Takashi Matsuo) who loved "river shrimp tempura" in his childhood, and celebrated its 60th anniversary of release in 2024. After many trials and errors, a product was completed that uses fresh natural shrimp in its entirety, including the shell, resulting in a flavorful product that also provides calcium. Even after 60 years, it remains a popular long-selling product.
"French Salad Flavor" was first introduced in 1986 as the first flavor variation of "Kappa Ebisen", inspired by the delicious combination of "river shrimp tempura" and citrus. It is characterized by a refreshing taste with a moderate acidity and a light, crispy texture due to the use of a thinner dough than the regular product.
Both "Kappa Ebisen" and the "Tokaido Shinkansen" were born in 1964. Despite being considered as "taken for granted" entities, both have been constantly evolving. With overlapping aspirations, they realized a 60th anniversary collaboration to express their gratitude and to provide enjoyment to more people.

"Kappa Ebisen" Day Campaign
In honor of the phrase from the Japanese commercial song for "Kappa Ebisen", "Can't stop, won't stop♪", August 10th is designated as "Kappa Ebisen" Day every year. A campaign is planned for August 10, 2024 (Saturday), with the grand prize being an invitation to a private vehicle. It is scheduled to operate around November 2024.
Release of 60 Shrimp at All Tokaido Shinkansen Stations! Campaign
From mid-August 2024, in celebration of the 60th anniversary, they will post "60" shrimp stickers at each station of the Tokaido Shinkansen. Find the various sizes of hidden shrimp at the station, and depending on the number you find, you can win prizes. This is a first-time attempt by JR Tokai, and we will also decorate the Shinkansen station nameplates. Shrimp may appear in unexpected places!?
