Motoyama 55, famous Tsukemen restaurant in Nagoya City
Tsukemen is like ramen that the noodles and the soup are served separatedly so you can dip noodles into a bowl of fish soup when you eat them. Motoyama 55 has special item called Spicy Tsukemen. You can choose the spicy level from normal to devil. You get an egg and rice for free during lunch hour and you can make your own Risotto out of them.

You may say you know what ramen is and have eaten it before. But this is a different kind of ramen that the noodles and the soup are served separately. It is called the Tsukemen and how you eat the Tsukemen is dipping the noodles into the fish flavored soup and eat them. You can eat with some toppings like roasted pork, cheese and seaweed. Motoyama 55 (pronounced as Motoyama GoGo.) have 3 levels of hot flavors; normal, hot and devil hot. Although the devil hot Tsukemen is very hot, you can enjoy its so-called umami and hot taste at the same time thanks to the original soup of Motoyama 55. After you eat all the noodles, you can add more noodles if you want, or add cheese, rice (free during lunch time) and free egg (1 egg per person) for making your own risotto by using induction heating (IH) device in front of you. It is like you can enjoy two different dishes out of one order. They have small sized Tsukemen for kids, so you don’t have to worry about the portion. Besides Tsukemen, Taiwanese-style mixed ramen, Taiwan mixed soba and such are available

Motoyama 55 is a subsidiary of Fujiyama 55. There are many restaurants run by Fujiyama 55 in Nagoya. Each restaurant has its own original menu, taste and style. Most of them are located near Nagoya subway stations and named after the nearest subway station followed by 55 (GoGo). So you can tell Motoyama 55 is near Motoyama station of Higashiyama line.

Motoyama 55 has about 10 seats. Sometimes you have to wait for 30-60 minutes depending on the date and time of your visit, but as soon as you purchase a ticket, the staff will start preparing your order. So when your queue comes, your order will soon be ready and you can enjoy your Tsukemen in a few minute.

About how to get to Motoyama 55, you can use Nagoya city subway Higashiyama (yellow) line from Nagoya station to Motoyama Station. It takes about 20 minutes from Nagoya station and about 2 minute walk from the exit 2. Unfortunately, they don’t have menu in English but you can tell by the pictures on the ticket vending machine or ask the staff for help. I recommend Motoyama 55 to anyone who likes the new style of Tsukemen with very hot taste.
