Yamachan, Tennoji 20160804-17-01-Takoyaki-Osaka

One of the best takoyaki places in the Tennoji area hands down! Yamachan is located on a street by Abeno Harukas, the tallest commercial building in Japan. They are so popular that they always have a long line from opening to closing time every day. Loved by locals, this is a must-try if you're in Osaka. The takoyaki’s dough is so thin and fragile like xiao long bao with mild gravy broth that melts inside of your mouth. There are many variations though the most popular one is called "Best and Young".

Aiduya Honten, Tamade

You cannot miss Aiduya if you love Takoyaki. Aiduya is the birthplace of Takoyaki. Yes, everything was started here. What is unique about this place is that they don’t put Takoyaki sauce on top. Their takoyaki has a deep flavor of dashi (fish broth). With one bite, you feel the perfect harmony of octopus and their specialty dashi.

Wanaka, Sennichimae

Wanaka is loved by locals. They always have a long line! But don’t worry, it's not a restaurant, but a food stand. Thus, you will not be in the line as long as you might expect. Their dough uses bonito and konbu, seaweed broth. Like Aiduya, you don’t actually need any sauce and their takoyaki tastes great as-is. However, they do have some fancy choices of toppings so you should add the sauce anyways. Kamataki-shio, a homemade salt is our recommendation. They use Okinawan salt and that will add deepness to their takoyaki.
