Jidori is a phenomenon that is popular all over the world! Yes, it is the Japanese word for taking a selfie!

With just about everyone owning a cellphone nowadays, and social media applications such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat becoming mainstays in how people socialize, taking selfie photos is more popular than ever. I mean, why rely on others to take your photo when you can do it yourself? It’s also a great way to get everyone into a group photo when there are no people passing by in the immediate vicinity.

While travelling though, please do be considerate of your surroundings when stopping to take a selfie, especially if you carry around a selfie stick. Selfie sticks are very useful tools to help take good selfies, but can also be dangerous if you are not aware of what’s around you. In fact, some tourists are so obnoxious with their selfie sticks that some tourist destinations have banned the selfie stick altogether! So, please take those selfies responsibly!

Let’s remember the following useful sentences before going to Japan!

===============================

Saikin no wakamono wa yoku jidori shimasune.
(最近の若者はよく自撮りしますね。)
> Youngsters nowadays take a lot of selfies, don’t they?

Jidori wo umaku toru houhou oshite kudasai.
(自撮りをうまくとる方法を教えてください。)
> Please teach me how to take selfies well.

===============================

Now all that’s left is to go out there and try using them in Japan!
