The “Sanrio Exhibition,” which has toured various locations throughout Japan since 2021, has reached its grand finale. “Sanrio Exhibition FINAL ver.: 60 Years of Japanese Kawaii Culture” opened on Thursday, April 9 at the Mori Arts Center Gallery (Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, 52nd floor).
Prior to the opening, a preview and opening event were held, with Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll making special appearances to celebrate.
Highlights of the “Sanrio Exhibition FINAL ver.”
This exhibition is the final venue of the “Sanrio Exhibition,” which toured 19 cities nationwide and attracted over 850,000 visitors, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Sanrio Co., Ltd. The “Sanrio Exhibition FINAL ver.” features the largest display in the exhibition’s history, with approximately 1,500 Sanrio goods and over 200 characters on display. In addition, a special collaboration corner with the popular “Sanrio Character Ranking” event has been newly established, offering a total of 100 quizzes related to Sanrio characters. Visitors can enjoy both the exhibits and the quizzes, discovering new charms of the all-time favorite characters as well as those they may not know yet.
While tracing over 60 years of Sanrio’s history, the exhibition also introduces how “Kawaii” culture has grown and the “Sanrio spirit” behind it, through valuable designs and products.

Exhibition Structure
Chapter 1: The Beginning of Kawaii
What kind of “Kawaii” did Sanrio create before Hello Kitty made her debut in 1974? This chapter introduces episodes from Sanrio’s early days, focusing on the new value of “Kawaii” and how the company continued to create it one after another.
Chapter 2: The Birth of Original Characters
How were Sanrio’s original characters, created through much trial and error, brought to life? This chapter delves into the secrets behind their creation.
Chapter 3: The Secret of Hello Kitty’s Popularity
Hello Kitty is a beloved character who has continued to be adored by fans for over 50 years since her debut. Why has Kitty remained so loved by fans for such a long time? Here, we will explain the unique qualities of Hello Kitty that set her apart from other characters.
Chapter 4: Nurturing "Kawaii" Together with Fans
Nurturing "Kawaii" together with fans is the fundamental approach of Sanrio. To achieve this, the company launched its official magazine, "Ichigo Shimbun (Strawberry Newspaper)." Through "Ichigo Shimbun," we will explain how Sanrio has developed its characters together with fans.
Chapter 5: A Grand Gathering of Characters!
From famous characters to those waiting to be discovered, we will introduce a wide variety of Sanrio characters. Chapter 6: Meet Your New Favorite Character! Sanrio Character Ranking Collaboration Corner
The annual "Sanrio Character Ranking" is a popularity contest event where characters selected from over 450 Sanrio characters are entered, and their rankings are determined by the number of votes they receive. It is a place where Sanrio characters and fans can cheer each other on, celebrate together, and share smiles. To help you discover new charms of Sanrio characters, we have prepared a full set of 100 quiz questions!
Chapter 7: A Message from Sanrio
For over 60 years, Sanrio has been creating “Kawaii.” Now more than ever, Sanrio wants to deliver its “message.”

Collaboration Project with the “2026 Sanrio Character Ranking”!
From Thursday, April 9, 2026 to Sunday, May 24, 2026, visitors to the Sanrio Exhibition FINAL ver. will receive one “2026 Sanrio Character Ranking Voting Card” for each ticket purchased, as well as for every 550 yen (tax included) spent on merchandise.
*The number of cards distributed will correspond to the total purchase amount (tax included).
*Distribution of voting cards will end once supplies run out.
*Each voting card can be used for one vote.
*For each “General/University/Vocational Student Ticket,” four cards will be distributed on weekdays and five on weekends and holidays. For each “Elementary/Junior High/High School Student Ticket,” one card will be distributed on weekdays and two on weekends and holidays. Cards are distributed at the exchange counter inside the exhibition room on the day of admission only.
*For tickets with an original tote bag, 11 Sanrio Character Ranking voting cards will be distributed per ticket at the exchange counter inside the exhibition room on the day of admission only.
