Anyone can become a medalist, regardless of age

The male Japanese teams participating in the 35 to 39 year-old class, 40 to 44 year-old class, 45 to 49 year-old class, 55 to 59 year-old class, and 65 to 69 year-old class of the AMAC’s 4 x 200 meter relay competition all earned gold medals. Although it was raining, the team proved the merit in their training by bringing home the gold. Their victory serves as a lesson that age doesn’t matter; so long as you keep putting in the effort and challenge yourself, you have the chance to become a medalist.

New records are just waiting for all participants to be broken

Nobuharu Asahara (on the far left), a silver-medalist of the Beijing Olympics 4 x 100 meter race and WMG 2021 KANSAI ambassador, came out of retirement after 10 years to participate in the WMG track competition. He also competed in the 45 to 49 year-old class 4 x 100 meter relay competition of the AMAC in Malaysia, working with his team to achieve a whopping 43.27 second record time. This surpasses the record set by the British team’s time of 43.42 seconds in 1999. Keep in mind this team wasn’t comprised of only ex-Olympic athletes. With their shared goal of setting a new world record in mind, the team trained tirelessly. It seems that their training paid off!

The world record-breaking team has announced they’ll also be participating in the WMG 2021 KANSAI, so participants in the track and field events may have a chance to race against them in the future. Being able to stand on equal ground with world record-breaking athletes is another reason people are drawn to compete in the WMG 2021 KANSAI games.
