The Beaches of Shizuoka's Izu Peninsula

There are many popular beaches on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture. There are 3 main areas: the “Higashi-Izu area”, where the beaches are large, “Minami-Izu”, which has very beautiful, clear water, and “Nishi-Izu”, which is popular among families because of its quiet and calm waves. All the areas are crowded during swimming season.

The Easy-to-Access Higashi-Izu Area Beach

The Higashi-Izu area includes the beaches in Atami, Ito, Higashiizu, and Kawazu. It is an area with large beaches and easy access from Tokyo.

The Very Easily Accessible Atami Sun Beach

Atami Sun Beach is a beach in the city center of Atami. The nearest station, Atami Station, is a Shinkansen stop, making the beach easy to get to, so it is crowded with many tourists during the summer season. There is a breakwater off the coast, so the waves are quiet, and it is popular with a wide range of bathers from children and families to couples. There is also a shower and free changing room (ladies only).

The Shirahama Central Beach is the northernmost beach on the Shirahama Coast, and is popular with families because it you can search for seashells, crabs and the like on the beach. Toi Beach: Nishi-Izu's Largest Beach

Toi Beach is one of the largest and most popular on the coast of Nishi-Izu. It is popular with young children because it is shallow and the waves are quiet. Because the lifeguards are constantly monitoring, you can swim with peace of mind. In addition, showers and changing rooms are available free of charge.
