Tsuki 月 (Moon) Fun! Japan Words vol.41

This week Fun Japan Word is “Tsuki’ which means “moon” in Japanese !
Look at the chinese characters itself, it looks like a moon crescent !

Tsuki is the japanese word used to say “moon” in Japanese, but the since chinese characters always have many way to be read, it could also be called “gestu” in certain situations.

Moon : Tsuki
Half moon : Hangetsu
Moon crescent : Mikazuki
New moon :  Shingetsu

There’s also plenty of every words or food using “moon”.

For example, udon noodles with and egg inside are called “Tsukimi udon”, or “Udon looking at the moon”, because the egg yolk in the looks like the moon in the ball.

You can find the word “Tsuki” in many mangas and animes.
The heroin of Sailor Moon is called Tsukino, or the villains association in Naruto is called “Akatsuki”, “Red moon”.
