Takara TOMY, a three-generational company in Japan, is well known for its toys and collectables. 2019 is the 60th anniversary of Takara TOMY’s, railway toy brand Plarail. Plarail specializes in Japan’s long-selling plastic toy railways and moving toy trains. In this article, we will introduce you to various Plarail toys that modeled after trains operating in and around Tokyo.

S-15 Narita Express

Many, if not all people, are traveling to Japan are familiar with this train. The Narita Express, connects Yokohama, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro areas with Narita Airport.

Also known as N’EX, this train is popular with tourists for its ease and direct travel to and from the airport. The lead vehicle for both the real train and the toy train features a stylish angular design. It also features a red stripe running the length of the car.

S-19 Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line・Fukutoshin Line 10000 Series

The 1000 series train was designed with the main concepts of comfort, ease of use, and improved recyclability. This commercial train series was introduced to the Tokyo underground train system in 2007. The lead car design is described as a novel.

S-19 Seibu Railway 001 Series “Laview”

Operated by the Seibu Railyway, the Laview train is known for the front of the train, which features a large curved glass window at the front of the train. It was the first of its kind in Japan. On the toy, the window has a radius of 1500mm. The design is rounded and smooth, giving a gentle impression that goes all the way down the vehicle.

S-20 THE ROYAL EXPRES

The Royal Express is a sightseeing train that is operated by Tokyu Corporation and Izukyu. This train runs between Yokohama Station and Izukyu Shimoda Station in Shizuoka. The train is known for its glossy metallic blue color and is often called “gorgeous.”

S-32 Yamanote Line Train Cars - Opening and Closing doors

This E231 series has been redesigned to fully utilize the latest toy technology. It is so real that the lead car of the car says the “Tokyo-Ueno Yamanote Line.” The doors of the following cars can be opened and closed to add more realistic play.

S-36 Tobu Liberty (dedicated consolidated specification)

“Liberty” is the nickname given to the series 500 trains that run along the Tobu Railway. The Tobu Liberty is convenient for both sightseeing and commuting. The trains shape is uniquely shaped. The overall color of the train is a champagne beige while the windows have a forest green frame, complementing the lush nature along the road of the train tracks.

S-37 Odakyu Romance Car 50000 Series

The Odakyu Electric Romance car connects Shinjuku and Hakone. This train first debuted in the spring of 2005. This train features a white body, a colorful stripe running down the length of the cars, and high windows.

A tourist train well known for its bright amber colored body. The trip from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko station takes about 45 minutes. The train also has a Mt. Fuji motif as a logo.
