This week, let’s keep on with useful word for doing shopping in Japan.
“Menzei” (免税) means “Tax-free”, a lovable information for shopping addicts!

“Menzei” (免税) is the Japanese word used for “Tax-free”.
You might see in front of many stores in big shopping areas like Shinjuku, Ginza, Shibuya, Odaiba , Akihabara, and many more.

Some items can also have a sticker with “Menzei” (免税).

Look for those characters when you’ll go shopping, you’ll might save the Japan consumption tax which is around 10%.
Don’t forget to ask store clerk to get the special ticket which will allow you to get your money back at the airport before leaving the country!
But before you do that, you’ll have to present a foreign passport, so bring it when you’ll go shopping.

For many years, “Menzei” (免税) tax-free items were quite limited to big department stores, but for a few years it has really expanded to many shops from electronic, fashion, drugstores and many more.
