“Higanbana” is the Japanese name for Lycoris Radiata, Red Spider Lily or Red Magic Lily in English.
This red flower blooms during autumn, around the period of the equinox.
The wonderful shape of Higanbana has been loved by Japanese people for a long time.
Symbol of autumn equinox, this flower’s name has a lot of different meanings, as well as a lot of legends about it too.
Usually those legends are linked to buddhism or afterlife, so this flower is often planted near graves in Japan, but also near rice fields because their roots contain a repellent for mices.
So, don’t offer them in a flower bouquet! (Unless your partner loves gothic stuff, lol)
Anyway, no need to care about symbols, you can still admire it for its wonderfully delicate shape.
