One wind to blow the bad Ramen away – Hakata Ippudo Ramen! -Lee’s Foodblog-

Hello kawan-kawan!
Now, if you have been doing your research on what to eat in Japan,

I am sure you would have come across a ramen restaurant called Hakata Ippudo Ramen (博多一風堂) .
Ippudo, the direct translation which means “one wind hall”, originated from the south of Japan in the Fukuoka Prefecture.

It was named as such because the ramen industry at that time was not doing very well, and the CEO of the company, Shigemi Kawahara, hoped that by naming his new restaurant as “one wind hall”, he would be able to “blow wind and revolutionize” the ramen industry of the era.

Luckily for CEO Kawahara, his method worked!
Ippudo Ramen had such good business that soon after, it expanded all over the world, from New York City, to Singapore, to Australia, even to Malaysia, and recently opened its first restaurant at Jakarta!

The typical broth of Ippudo Ramen is thick and milky, while the noodles are thin and silky.
Typical toppings for the ramen include chasu, mushrooms, and scallions. The signature dishes are the “Shiromaru Hakata Classic” and the “Akamaru Modern”.

One characteristically is served in a white bowl, while the latter in a red bowl.
The only difference between the two is  that the “Akamaru Modern” has a scoop of red “Umami Dama” miso and garlic oil, which intensifies the flavour of the broth, and makes it a little more oily and rich.

My favourite part of the meal at any Ippudo restaurant, however, is the generous toppings one can add on for free!! Just look around your table and you will be sure to find toppings like freshly pressed garlic and chili powder, amongst many.

If that is not enough, you can also add on more “Kakuni” (braised pork belly), “Menma”(seasoned bamboo shoots), “Onsen Tamago” (poached egg), or “Nitamago” (seasoned salt boiled egg).

A bowl of Ippudo Ramen for the “Shiromaru Hakata Classic” is 800 Yen (1100 Yen for the special) and the “Akamaru Modern” is 750 Yen (1050 Yen for the special). With over 65 locations in Japan, you will be spoiled for choices wherever you go!

That said, I highly recommend the restaurant in Marunouchi Brick Square because it is located at a beautiful place and you can have a lovely walk after to digest all the wonderful ramen you have consumed!

To get to Hakata Ippudo Marunouchi, you can take the Marunouchi Line to Tokyo station. From there, it is a 5 minute walk to the restaurant. Worth it for a bowl of deliciousness like Ippudo Ramen, if you ask me! See you there!
