Popcorn Enthusiasm In Harajuku

If you ask people what food comes to mind when you say a name of a town in Tokyo called  “Harajuku”, crepes might be the number one choice that will come up. Fluffy thin layer rolls filled with fruits and cream, decorated with colourful chocolates and icecreams are a perfect snack to grab and go while you are enjoying shopping with your friends.

Harajuku and crepes are two sets of words for over 40 years and yet still remain its popularity, but there are two more other desserts that are getting popular in harajuku area lately. 
First comes pancakes. Numbers of young girls wait on huge line on weekends for cute looking pancakes with various toppings. 

Starting with crepes and pancakes, you can say harajuku is a place for street desserts nowadays. Not only for fashion, but also trendsetter place for desserts.
One more thing that became trend in this area is popcorns.

1. Garrett Popcorn Shops

The popular gourmet popcorn chain from Chicago opened in Harajuku in 2013, and number of people make a big line for over an hour on weekends since then. It apparently helped to set the gourmet popcorn trend in Tokyo. It is only 30 seconds away from the Harajuku station.

2. KuKuRuZa

The shop is located right by a shopping complex called Omotesando Hills. They have 36 different flavors, but they only sell 10 on any given day. Their original gourmet and unique flavors are popular, such as maple bacon, truffle fromage porcini, and even limited flavor that you can find only in Japan matcha with white chocolate.

3. Doc Popcorn
Denver-based Doc popcorn’s firm policy is “fun”, “health” and “smile”. Literally their popcorn is made with 100% natural corn oil and not greasy at all like other normal popcorn.

4. Pop! gourmet popcorn

This shop from Seattle has all-natural, GMO-free, gluten-free popcorn ranging from 980 yen to 1200 yen. It is more luxury type of popcorn compare to others that you can tell from its price and shop itself.
