In the middle of Yokohama’s Cosmo World amusement park sits a giant Ferris wheel called the Cosmo Clock 21. Named so for the location as well as the fact that it houses a digital clock, the Cosmo Clock used to be the world’s tallest Ferris wheel from 1989, until it was taken over by the Tempozan Ferris Wheel in Osaka in 1997.

A full ride on the Cosmo Clock 21 takes about 15 minutes. There are 60 gondolas on the Cosmo Clock 21. A closer inspection will see that there are a few that are rather different from the others – transparent gondolas!

The cost for riding the transparent gondola is no different from that for the normal gondola (800 Yen). However, to do so, you will have to stand in a special line for this. They are expected to come every 8 minutes so do be patient.

Riding in the clear gondola is an exhilarating, and slightly scary experience. You can cheekily peer at the tops of the other gondolas, and see right through the bottom of yours. For those looking for a unique experience on the Cosmo Clock 21, this gondola is for you.
