Koishikawa Botanical Garden Part 1: Great Overlooked Spot in the middle of Tokyo

Just next to Tokyo Dome, Koishikawa area is famous for the Japanese style garden Koishikawa Korakuen.
But did you know there is another great garden totally overlooked by tourists just fews steps away?
It’s Koishikawa Botanical Garden!

Koishikawa Botanical Garden is a big botanical garden in the middle of Tokyo, which belongs to Tokyo University.

Originally made for studying nature in Tokyo during the 17th century, anyone can come to visit it.

The garden is divided into many areas with different sceneries, with around 4000 species of plants, trees and flowers.

Look, it looks like a forest!

This tree is called “Saru suberi” (Falling monkey), because the trunk is very slippery.

There’s a big space to lay on the floor and have picnic under cherry trees during spring.

You can also buy some snacks and drink at the kiosk.

The garden is on the top of a hill and have a nice view upon the city.

The entrance is not free, but in exchange you, can enjoy a park which is not crowded like famous ones and have a lot of space to relax and picnic!
