Shirakawa-go 白川郷 is included in UNESCO World Heritage that is located in Japan.
Especially the village called Ogimachi.If you see from Shirakawa-go’s Kanji which is 白川郷, its means White River District.


Shirakawa-go is really famous of its Gasho type roof, the Japanese Traditional House.
It is also the place where the film “Last Samurai” was filmed, and for foreigners who wants to see the Japanese Traditional Houses and this magnificent World Heritage they always come to Shirakawa-go.
This is an example of Japan’s Traditional House.
These houses are called Gasshou-zukuri which roof shaped like a hand that is praying kind of structure.
During winter, it snows all day, and it gets really cold and surely below 0 celsius.
The houses here are actually real houses that real people who owns that house lives there.
So we can’t just stepped in without permission.
But usually some of the house owners allow people to go in with admission fees of course around 300yen. :)
As you can see the houses’ roof is a bit steep, it’s because during winter it allow the snow to fall easier to the ground.
In Shirakawa-go not only we can see traditional houses.
There are also small restaurants and souvenir shops that you can go buy too.
