One of my go-to halal food recommendation for my fellow muslim friends have always been the kebab.
Nutritious, delicious, and extremely satisfying on a cold day, this simple meal never fails.
When one of my muslim friends came to visit last week, we went on a hunt to seek out the best kebab in Tokyo.

Yes, we did not want just any kebab… we wanted one that was certified as top!
After searching online for a while, we found out about Kafka’s Kebab, a humble store located near Ueno.
Now, when we got there, we saw a trophy at the counter of the stall.
That was a good sign!
Happily, we walked up to the counter asking about the trophy.

To our dismay, it turns out that the kebab place won second place, instead of first, in a recent kebab contest held with teams from all over Japan competing.
Realizing our disappointment, the kind store person was quick to placate us that the first place prize went to a kebab store from Osaka.
If we wanted to eat the best kebab in Japan, we would have to go to Osaka.
However, if we wanted to eat the best kebab in Tokyo, we were at the right place.
Convinced by the great salesmanship of the man, and deterred by the cost of going to Osaka just for a kebab, we settled on Kafka’s kebab.

In short, it was not difficult to see why Kafka’s kebab got first place (in Tokyo)!
The meat was tender (you can get the kebabs as Chicken, Beef, or a Mixture), and the sauce (Mild, Teriyaki, Spicy, Super Spicy) complemented each other very well.
The best thing about it is that the whole meal cost only 500 Yen!
We left with very happy stomachs, and vowed to come back again.

If you are interested in trying the #1 kebab in Tokyo, it is a short 3 minute walk from the Ueno JR station.
