Hey, everybody!

Today I’m going to be introducing Japan’s oldest café, Café Paulista, which first opened in Ginza over 100 years ago, and is still going today!
It’s visited by lots of famous authors and other celebrities, and is said to be the model for the café appeared in the NHK TV drama series Hanako to Anne.
It’s also said to be the origin of the phrase Gin-Bura, which means “to wander around Ginza,” but was originally short for “Ginza no Café Paulista de Burajiru Kohi o Nomu” (“to drink Brazilian coffee in Ginza’s Café Paulista.”)
The café is situated right on Ginza Chuo-dori.
Come on, let’s head inside!

I head straight through the narrow, well-lit café interior to a seat at the back.
I’ve come here to try out the breakfast menu, which is available until 11:30 am, except on Sundays and public holidays.
There are five different dishes available, including toast, hotdogs, and scones, and everything comes with coffee, orange juice, and salad.
There’s also a range of five different coffees to choose from, including CAFÉ FLORESTAL (“forest coffee,”) an organic, naturally-cultivated Brazilian coffee, and Paulista Old, the very same coffee that John Lennon and Yoko Ono came to drink for three mornings and three nights in a row!
After making my order, I sit waiting on the comfy sofa, when before I know it, it’s arrived!

The CAFÉ FLORESTAL is smooth and refreshing, and the tuna toast is deliciously soft and fluffy!

This is the toast set: crisply-toasted bread that’s delicious with butter and jam piled on.
The chandeliers and artwork on the walls ooze with retro charm, and as you listen to the music drifting through the café, any morning becomes a moment of pure bliss.

(There is a photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono inside the café, too!)

Apart from the morning menu, there’s also a range of flavorsome coffees, desserts, and light meals.
It really is the perfect place to stop off for a nostalgic café break during any trip to Ginza.
