As the Japanese school year started two months ago, everyone is preparing for “Undôkai” (運動会).

“Undôkai” (運動会) is the word used for the “Sport festival” which is every year in almost all Japanese schools from elementary to high-school.

Sport festivals usually occur between May and June or September and October.
Pupils are separated by classes, then by groups. (Usually the “white group” and the “red group”)
Those two groups are competing in various trials like races, ball throwing, or rope jumping for example.

Since this events occurs on weekends, the parents are invited to watch and even participate in the events.
Often, mothers are very busy preparing huge picnic boxes, while fathers are trying their new cameras or video recorder to get the best shots of their loved children.

“Undôkai” (運動会) is a very important and memorable event during Japanese school year. 
Often, these Undôkai are also commonly used as a topic in manga or anime where action takes place in school.
