Donburi or Don-what actually is it? Yes, it is simply a rice bowl topped with various meats such as raw fish, crispy pork or chicken teriyaki; very quick meal and full of nutrition indeed.
But, a few donburi is to be seen having an Engawa on top. The Engawa is a thin dorsal fin on the side of the Halibut, producing a higher fat content which makes it a delicacy. To find one of the best in town, I would definitely recommend the Muteki by Mugendai.
Normally, a premium Japanese restaurant would provide you with an Engawa sushi, but here you are able to enjoy the “Engawa Lava Don”- a rice bowl rich of torched Engawa at only 395 THB. Oh! I really love this price.
Neither did “Muteki Sunset” let me down. It is a Nigiri sushi covered by a familiar Halibut Engawa on top with chopped salmon and flying fish roe, seasoned with spicy mayonnaise sauce. What impressed me most is the thickness and aromatic flavor of the fin.
Apart from Engawa, the “Omakase Sashimi Take” is also compelling. The term Omakase refers to how a chef selects cooking materials according to the quality of daily catch in order to deliver the same high standard all year around. The dish comprises the seven best selections i.e. Otoro, Akami, Botan Ebi, Salmon Toro, Hamachi, Tai, Hokkigai (Stimpson surf clam), Tamago, and Maguro Maki Sushi. All of them tasted extremely good; especially Otoro melted away gently on my tongue.
If you are exhausted from a hard working day, let’s try “Zuwaigani Salad Roll”- the delicious combination of snow crab meat, cucumber salad, sweet eggs, and special dressing. This menu will perfectly alleviate your tension.
Finally, I indulge myself with “Hokkaido Soft Cream”- soft, smooth and sticky.
