When you go travel outside of the urban part of Japan like Tokyo and Osaka, you realized it is quite hard to find a halal certified food since it is not yet common throughout Japan. As we are so sure the situation is going to get better towards the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, for now we try to list up as many restaurants as we can. This time, we found out some of the restaurant listed in the Tohoku region. Our one big YAY for this time is that we found one Wankosoba (all you can eat soba served in very unique way we are going to explain later as you read) in Iwate prefecture which you should pay a visit to have a local experience there.

Hotel Metropolitan is located in a convenient place, just a stone’s throw away from the Sendai station (actually you can enter the hotel directly from inside of the station). Inside of the hotel, there are two restaurants that acquire local halal certification. One restaurant is called Hayase and they serve authentic Japanese cuisine all in Halal. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner using halal certified ingredients though most popular menu to local Muslim customers are Sukiyaki.

Another restaurant is Serenity. They have western style lunch and dinner menu. Using fresh local vegetables and halal certified meat, they serve a prix fixe presented beautifully.

Narita-ya, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture

Narita-ya is a franchised Halal ramen restaurant originated in Kyoto and they opened the third restaurant in Sendai city of Miyagi prefecture followed by Asakusa and Kyoto. Using fresh local ingredients like seafood from Ishinomaki Genki Fukkou Center, they serve Japanese-style ramen and other plate menus for Muslims who want to enjoy Japanese “teishoku” style foods. They also serve Sendai’s famous local cuisine, “gyu-tan” (beef tongue) using Halal certified beef. Additionally for those hungry students, they serve valued lunch for you.

Lastly, as we explained in the beginning, we found one wankosoba place in Iwate. Wankosoba is traditional all you can eat soba cuisine in Morikoka known as the way of hospitality there. The way they serve soba is so unique that soba noodle is served in one bite potion and after you eat them, immediately a server will slide in a new portion of noodles to your bowl one after another until you close the top of the bowl. For a long time soba noodle is considered hard to make in Halal because they use alcohol to make the dipping sauce though, Azumaya, a long-established soba noodle restaurant in Iwate finally developed and started to serve soba noodle using halal-friendly dipping sauce so that all Muslim tourists can enjoy the local unique experience.
