Chidorigafuchi Light-up

※This article was published at April 2015.※

Hi all, Navio here!

On today’s article, I am going to share with you guys a cool spot where you can do hanami at night.
Located in Chiyoda-ku, really close to the Yasukuni Temple, the closest station is Kudanshita Station.

This cool place is well known for its sakura trees, and it will be lighted up during the hanami season.
This place is called 千鳥ヶ淵 (Chidorigafuchi), literally meaning “The Abyss of Thousand Birds”.
Sounds really cool, right?

So, during the 10 day period of Sakura Matsuri (27th March - 5th April 2015), the sakura trees were getting a light-up, from sunset (around 6 PM) ~ 10 PM.

Of course you can stop anywhere along the rails, but don’t you dare to open a plastic sheet and start eating bento or any other stuff.

No, you can’t sit here.
You have to enjoy the flowers standing, or should I said walking.
There will be two sides of the pathwalk, the left one for people who just come and want to take picture of the famous boats and sakura of Chidorigafuchi, and the right side for people who are going back home.
Please follow the rules and have a safe, fun hanami with other hanami-goers.

As expected from a light-up, there will always be many people around, so you also might want to keep in mind that “I am not the only one here, people are also taking photos, I should respect them” :D

How can I find a good spot to take such awesome photo?
Let me give you a simple tips.
Just follow the crowd and get to the front of the place where many people gather and take pictures.
It’s as simple as that.

What I could conclude from my visit to Chidorigafuchi, is that you could either take the sakura only, or include the boats in the shot.

There’s a little steps in the deck which allows you to go to a higher level and take the abyss with its famous boats.

I would love to try to ride the boat one day :D

Oh yeah, they really shut the power down at 10 PM, so don’t expect that you will be able to see any sakura light-up afterwards.
The lights around me just went *pats* in no time, luckily I had finished taking pictures.
I could hear people sighing when the lights went out, so try to give yourself enough time!
