Today’s dorayaki seems like a classic dorayaki, except it isn’t!
It’s Yomogi dorayaki!

The cake part of the dorayaki contains yomogi powder, which gives a light green color to the cake.

Yomogi is a very common Japanese plant used in many traditional Japanese sweets.
Yomogi powder gives a green color to food and a very distinct herbal flavor and aroma.
The taste is quite strong in sweets like yomogi daifuku or the sasadango we presented last week.
Some of you might love it, but I could easily imagine it being a challenge to many of you.

In this dorayaki, the taste of yomogi is very light, so it is easier to eat for children or people who don’t like yomogi that much.

The filling is a classic dorayaki filling, red bean paste.
It matches very well with the refreshing taste of yomogi.

We found this dorayaki in an organic-food supermarket called Bon Raspail in the shopping center PePe at Seibu Shinjuku Station.

You will probably find it in other organic shops as well or traditional Japanese sweets shops.
