Takeshita-dori – The most crowded street in Harajuku!

Whenever a friend hears that I study in Tokyo, they usually gush about how exciting it must be, followed by something along the lines of “I want to go there someday!

Bring me around!! We need to go shopping!!!”

Given that I live quite central to the city and how convenient transportation is, I usually oblige to this request whenever someone does visit.
My favorite place to show my friends around at is the ever famous Takeshita-dori(竹下通り), a youth shopping district in Harajuku that has the perfect mix of fun, fashion, and excitement.

Of the lovely places to visit along this approximately 400m long street, I highly recommend the 3-floor Daiso, where with ¥100, you can get almost anything under the sun for ranging from kitchen utensils, food, makeup, to closet organizers.

Aside from Daiso, Takeshita-dori is also filled with niche fashion stores that sell cosplay costumes, as well as genres like Goth, Punk, and Lolita. Prices range depending on the quality of the costume, but there are products to fit every fashionista’s taste and budget.

Be aware that Takeshita-dori is one of Harajuku’s most crowded streets.
If you are claustrophobic, you can wander along the side streets where there are still many stores to look at.

Takeshita-dori is an open street and thus does not close until the shops pack up.

To get to there, the closest station is Harajuku Station on the JR Yamanote Line.
