Shinjuku is full of big shops like Yodobashi Camera, Bicqlo, department stores like Isetan, Takashimaya, and Marui, or shopping centers like Lumine, Alta, or Pepe.
But there are also a lot of less known shopping areas, like Subnade, an underground mall which connects Shinjuku Seibu Station, Shinjuku Station and Shinjuku Sanchome station.
Subnade contains around 100 shops, mostly fashion shops, but also bookstores, drugstores, restaurants, café, and even an aquarium store.
You won’t find big chain stores like Uniqlo, but plenty of smaller chains and brands for every style of clothes, even kimono.
Since it’s lesser known, it’s less crowded than other shopping centers in Shinjuku, ideal for people who don’t like to shop with tons of people around or in a noisy background.
You can also use Subnade as a shortcut to go from central Shinjuku to Seibu Shinjuku Station area, or even to Kabukicho. It’s really faster than the ground level since there’s no need to cross roads or avoid people.
