The Masuichi Kyakuden is a hotel born of the idea of inviting guests from afar, and offering them traditional Japanese hospitality combined with modern convenience. This culture of hospitality has been popular in Obuse since the Edo Period, and the one to invite Katsushika Hokusai to stay was the Edo Period scholar, Takai Sasayama. The exterior of the building was constructed from several buildings, including a sugar warehouse and wooden houses that were moved to this location for the purpose, giving it feeling of a long history. The guest rooms, however, are completely modern western-style rooms designed by American designers.
