Language
Japanese.
It may be hard to communicate with Japanese people in English.In public transportation, there is English notation alongside Japanese.
In many department stores, hotels, tourist destinations, the number of concierges who can speak English is increasing.

Climate
There are four seasons in Japan. There is big temperature difference from one season to another. The weather may differ from one region to another, so make sure you check it before come here.
For example, while Okinawa has relatively warm weather, Hokkaido has cold weather for whole year.

Spring: March, April, May
It is the transition between winter and summer. Temperature changes drastically in this period.
Summer: June, July, August
June is rainy season. It is the hottest period in the whole year. The temperature often exceeds 30 degree Celcius in this period.
Restaurant and department store may have strong air cooler at this period, so don’t forget to bring your light coat.

Autumn: September, October, November
It is the transition between summer and winter. Temperature changes drastically. September is a month with most unstable weather. in whole year. Most typhoons in Japan come in this month.
Winter: December, January, February
January and February are the coldest months in a year. Temperature may go below freezing point. Snow falls heavily especially in Japan sea side.

Water
Tap water is drinkable. You can also buy mineral water if you need it.
You can buy it at convenient store, supermarket, or vending machine in the street, station etc.

Japan currency
Japan currency is Yen. There is no tipping in Japan.

Restaurant
As halal food is extremely rare, you have to research foods and restaurants where you want to eat before coming to Japan. You can also ask for vegetarian menu to the restaurant staff.

Smoking
If you are 20 years old or older, Japan law prohibits you from smoking or buying cigarette.
Basically, it is also prohibited to smoke in public facility, public transportation and department store.
There is also smoking and non-smoking area in restaurant and hotel. Don’t forget to check it out before smoking.

Alcohol
If you are 20 years old or older, Japan law prohibits you from smoking or buying alcohol.
You may have to show your ID card before purchasing alcohol in restaurant and other places.
