From its Kanji
人形(にんぎょう):DollWe can conclude that
雛人形(ひなにんぎょう):Hina Doll
This Hina Matsuri actually was introduced by China.
But the ‘Displayed Dolls’ was from the Edo Period.

The Rule of this Doll is that after 3rd of March is over you must tidy up all the dolls and put it in the closet.
But why?
People say that if you don’t tidy up the dolls as soon as 3rd of March, the daughter can’t get married.
Thats a mystery but who knows!

These are the dolls that are displayed during this Hina Matsuri.
Why is this festival called the Doll Festival or Girls Festival?
Actually long time ago, there was a game called Hiina Asobi which means ‘play doll princesses’.
That’s why now cause this celebration uses dolls and now it’s called the same festival : Doll Festival.
This full set consist of emperor, empress, princess castles in other word maids and a musician for a traditional marriage ceremony here in Japan.
The clothes that they where are Kimono from the Heian period.

Even though this is called Matsuri or Festival, this is like a family routinity which they have to do this every year (condition where if in a family they have a daughter)
Before the 3rd of March Children will help their parents to display all the dolls.
P.S My teacher once told me that she has a daughter at home and she had to display the dolls even though as we know it Japanese Houses are super tiny they still do display it for their daughters’ sake) :)
Like I told you that this dolls will receive the bad luck and the daughter herself will receive good luck.
Because the dolls are ‘infected’ by the bad lucks after 3rd March is over like i said you must keep it in the closet so the bad luck won’t spread away.
Well, what do you guys think about this Hina Matsuri?
I guess live in Japan then you will obviously celebrate this if you have a daughter in your family :)
