In Japanese, alcoholic beverage is called sake ()
Sake means alcoholic beverage, such as wine, beer, cocktails, etc., any kind of beverage that contains alcohol. Sake also means Japanese sake, Japanese alcohol baverage, that brewed with rice and malt.

There are 3 kinds of brewed alcoholic beverages:  wine, beer, and Japanese sake. And speaking of Japanese sake, there are 2 kinds of it, brewed Japanese sake and distilled liquor: shochu.
Brewing is making alcohol beverages by fermenting grains and fruit. And the distillation of the brew produces distilled liquor or shochu in Japanese.
